Imaging contests

AstroBin supports imaging contests, both to let you discover amazing new astrophotographs every day and to entertain you during those long cloudy streaks.

As a member of AstroBin Lite, Premium or Ultimate, you can participate in the Top Picks and Image of the Day processes.

The “AstroBin Image of the Day and Top Picks” is a long-running system to promote beautiful, interesting, peculiar, or otherwise amazing astrophotographs, with a focus on technical excellence.

Anybody can volunteer to enter a voting jury, called the IOTD Staff, that selects the most beautiful, interesting, peculiar, or otherwise amazing images on AstroBin, daily.

Plans for the near future (estimated late 2024) include a community driven, generic contests module, that will allow anyone to create custom contests. Here's some ideas:

  • Lunar terminator yearly contest

  • Best Southern deep sky object

  • Comet of the month

  • ISS transit yearly contest

  • Weekly/monthly/yearly contests with whatever theme

  • … anything your imagination can come up with!
